It is Friday 5pm somewhere.....time to log off and enjoy the weekend. In the meantime, enjoy a short but beautifully curated selection of randomness from around the web.

This week
  1. The Amazon Web Services event was in Sydney this week and the energy levels have spiked. It is already a game changer whether you use it for cheap storage, compute or elastic banding your capacity at peak times.
  2. I have been reading "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost and discussing it with my kids. They got the idea that sometimes you have to be an individual and choose your own path but they also thought it might mean that the two roads are the same, but you will never know because you choose one over the other.
  3. Shipping container housing ideas keep popping up in my feed and I keep thinking about ideas about what I would like to build. If you have other sites where there are good designs I would love to know about them.
  4. As "winter is coming" and If you need to get a new blazer here are some ideas.
  5. A dark fibre (or dark fiber) or unlit fibre is an unused optical fibre, available for use in fibre-optic communication. The term dark fibre was originally used when referring to the potential network capacity of telecommunication infrastructure, but now also refers to the increasingly common practice of leasing fibre optic cables from a network service provider, or, generally, to the fibre installations not owned or controlled by traditional carriers. I was reading this article on wikipedia this week and found it interesting.

If you have enjoyed this week's brief but beautifully curated walk through the web, please feel free to share or forward this email.

Getting on a board

I was reading this article this week in preparation for an interview for a new board position. Useful ideas and a good way to structure the conversation.
